TATE, Lyle - was one of the first settlers
of Emerald Township; came to this county in 1840; was born in Ireland,
May 4, 1820, and emigrated to the province of lower Canada with his
prents in 1837. His father, John Tate, died in 1843, aged sixty-seven
years. his moher Jane (Lowry) Tate, died December 1872, inher
ninety-sixth year. In 1838, Mr. John Tate moved to Pennsylvania, thence
to Henry County, Maumee Valley, in 1839, and to Paulding County in
1840. Lyle Tate and Martha Ann Alexander were united in marriage, March
9, 1851, in Emerald Township by John Mason, Esq. They have two
children: Anna Jane, born January 22, 1852, resides in Paulding County:
Samuel J., April 1, 1853, also resides in this county. Samuel J was
elected sheriff in 1879. Mrs. Tate's father, Noble Alexander, died
October 28, 1870, aged seventy-seven years, eleven months and eleven
days. Her mother, Anna Alexander, died May 10, 1847, aged fifty-one
years. Mr. Tate served as Township Trustee several terms; also one term
as Infirmary Director; has been Postmaster since, appointed under
President Buchanan in 1860. Business, merchant and farmer. Address,
Reid's, Paulding County, Ohio.
TAYLOR, Truman Wayne
- settled in this county in March, 1870. He and his wife, Sophrona
Wingert, were both born and married in Franklin county; he on May 28,
1848; she on September 6, 1847, and the latter event on the 13th day of
March, 1870. Their children are: Georgia Lian, born March 7, 1871;
Sylvia Anna, December 31, 1872; Sarah Almetta, December 15, 1874. The
paternal grandparents of these children were John Pike and Rebecca
(Perfect) Taylor, both deceased in Franklin county; the former on
September 9, 1879, the latter February 22, 1858. The maternal
grandparents are John and Mary (Witmire) Wingert, both deceased, the
latter in Franklin county. Mr. Taylor was one term Trustee of this
township; has a fine farm of one hundred and twenty acres. He attended
one term at Central College, Ohio, then one term at Adrian, Michigan,
when he returned home and went to running a saw mill in Fairfield
county, Ohio; thence to Franklin, where he remained a year, sold out
and went to farming, which business he has followed ever since.

TERWILLEGER, George B.
- is
engaged as an architect, contractor and builder. He has built most of
the prominent buildings in the county. He was born in New Jersey,
January 9, 1829. He removed from New York city to Ohio in 1856,
locating in Crawford county, where he remained until 1865, when he made
Antwerp his home. He was married in New York city, August 23, 1848, to
Maria Louisa Luke, who was born in New York city, September 23, 1831.
Their children are: Anna Maria (Clemmon), born October 11, 1849; Mary
Ellen (Crouse), September 4, 1851; George Alonzo, January 27, 1854;
Emer, January 26, 1857, died March 10, 1859; Edmund Kersley and John
William, born October 8, 1859, the latter died July 10, 1860; Jesse
Jeremiah, September 16, 1862; Ida May, September 13, 1866; Homer King,
May 11, 1870, died September 3, 1872; Franklin Seymour, October 31,
1872; Grace Maude, June 17, 1877, died August 7, 1877. Mrs.
Terwilleger's parents were George Luke, born 1788, died in 1840, and
Mary (Pool) Luke, born in New Jersey in 1793, died in 1879. Mr.
Terwilleger has served as Councillor nine years; has been Constable one
year, and member of the school board five years. His parents, John
Terwilleger, born in New Jersey in 1783, died in 1847, and Anna Van
Blorken, born in New Jersey in 1793, died in July, 1877. Address Mr.

THOMPSON, David C. -
a native of Sycamore township, Hamilton county, was born on February 9,
1827, and settled in Paulding county in 1851. His first marriage
occurred on April 23, 1853, with Louise Percy. She was a daughter of
Henry and Sarah (Brenner) Percy. She was born January, 1831, and her
death occurred on February 9, 1879. Mr. Percy was one of Napoleon
Bonaparte?s body guards at the battle of Waterloo. They came
to Defiance county about 1838, and were among the first settlers. Mrs.
Percy resides in this county; Mr. Percy is deceased. Mr.
Thompson?s children are: Ann Eliza, born March 18, 1854;
Stephen Sylvester, April 11, 1856; the former is married and both live
in Kansas; Ezra, November 24, 1857, resides at home; Harriet, September
29, 1859, died August 19, 1865; Frederick, April 15, 1861, died March
1, 1864; David, May 11, 1863, died March 3, 1864; Ellen, December 13,
1864; Eady, February 6, 1866; Charles Elmer, March 29, 1869; Amos,
February 2, 1871; Clarence, June 6, 1874. The last five reside at home
with their father and stepmother, Charity (Morris) Thompson, born in
Brown county, March 14, 1838, and married to Mr. Thompson on September
5, 1880, in Auglaize township, Paulding county, by Rev. John Gillespie.
When David C. Thompson settled here it was almost a wilderness, and now
he has about sixty-five acres altogether, making one of the finest
farms in the county. His father and mother, Samuel and Mary (Readly)
Thompson, moved to the Ohio river and to Cincinnati when it contained
but one house. His grandfather was a soldier in the Revolutionary war.
David C. Thompson was Township Trustee in 1856; Assessor in 1858, and
Trustee again in 1879. His present business is farming. Address,

TOWLE, John W. - a native of Cleveland, was
born August 15, 1840, married in Delaware Township, Defiance County,
Ohio by Charles Duning Esq., to Annie R. Marihugh, on September 24,
1860, and settled in Paulding County in 1861. Mrs. Towle was born in
Hermon, St. Lawrence County, New York, February 6, 1839. Her father
Russell Marihugh, died November 8, 1880; her mother Betsy A. (Myreck)
Marihugh, did in August 1863; both were born in St. Lawrence County,
New York. Mr. Towle's parents, Efferson and Mary A. (Plummer) Towle
were natives of Maine; came to Evensport, Defiance County, Ohio, in the
year 1838; thence to Muskegon, Michigan in 1870, where they now reside.
Mr. Towle's children are: Emma A., born September 10, 1861, died
September 6, 1867; Efferson Russell, August 25,1863; George W., July
17, 1866; Minnie Myrtle, November 16, 1868, died August 29, 1870;
Nellie Eliza, October 8, 1870; Albert William, July 23, 1878. Mr. Towle
served one year in the late Civil War; enlisted at Cleveland, a member
of Company B. 177th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry; was attached to
the 2nd Brigade, 3rd division, of the 23rd Army Corps, and participated
in second battle of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; at the capture of Fort
Fisher and Fort Anderson, capture of Wilmington, North Carolina, and
battle of Town Creek, North Carolina; mustered out of service at
Greensboro, North Carolina on July 7, 1865. George W. Towle, brother of
John W., a member of the 38th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, was
killed at the battle of Jonesboro, Georgia, September 15, 1864. His
father and two brothers also fought in defense of the union, leaving
but one, too young for a soldier at home to take care of the farm. Mr.
Towle is a farmer and teacher. Address, Sunnyside, Paulding County,
Ohio.
TYRE, Edward - son
of McDonald and Fanny Tyre, was born in Orange county, Virginia,
February, 1831, and settled in Paulding county in 1862. His wife, North
Ann, is a daughter of Anthony and Courtney McNeal, and was born in
Orange county, Virginia, December, 1835. Their children are: Sarah J.,
born 1850, resides in Fayette county; Fanny W., 1852, resides in
Pickaway county; Edinburg, 1853, deceased; Fountain W., January 25,
1855, resides in Hardin county; Courtney E., 1857, deceased; Albert O.,
September 2, 1860; John W., December, 1863; Maggie T., June 8, 1867;
Charles E., January 27, 1873. The last four reside in Paulding county.
Mrs. Tyre?s father was in the war of 1812. Business, general
farming. Address, Timberville, Paulding county, Ohio.
TYSOR, William A. - born in Clinton county, Ohio,
March 25, 1842, is a son of Clarissa Tysor, who was born in Ohio. He
settled in Paulding county, March 4, 1879, and was married in Clinton
county, Ohio, October 10, 1867, by John Jenkins, Esq., to Violetta
Sutton, daughter of John Sutton, born April 19, 1803. Mrs. Tysor was
born in Greene county, Ohio, February 7, 1847. Mr. Tysor is a farmer in
Crane township. He was a member of Company G., 79th Regiment Ohio
Volunteer Infantry; enlisted August 13, 1862, at Sabina, Ohio;
participated in the following battles: Resaca, Ringold, Altoona,
Kenesaw Mountain, Peach Tree Creek, in the Atlanta campaign, Savannah,
Sherman's March to the Sea, and many other minor battles; mustered out
of service June 17, 1865, at Camp Dennison, Ohio, attached to 3d
Division, 3d Brigade, 20th Army Corps. He had a brother who was in the
United States Navy, and accidentally fell from a gunboat on the Ohio
river, near Cincinnati, and was drowned. Business, farming. Address,
