OSBORN, William E. -
is editor and publisher of the Paulding Gazette, Paulding, Ohio, also
bookseller and stationer, Antwerp, Ohio; settled in this county in
1864. His birthplace is Tecumseh, Michigan, June 24, 1838. He was
married at Plymouth, Ohio, October 3, 1864, to Naomi H. North, who was
born in Richland county, Ohio, Nobember 6, 1844. Their family consists
of: Mary Dell, born November 1, 1868; Carrie Floy, born August 2, 1866,
died January 10, 1869; North Garfield, born September 8, 1875. Mrs.
Osborn’s parents are Rodger D. and Jane R. North. His parents
are David N. and Mary P. G. (Whitehead) Osborn. The subject of this
sketch enlisted in the 32d Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, in 1861,
and was honorably discharged at Second Lieutenant in 1864. He was
engaged in all the battles and skirmishes in the West Virginia
campaign, also through the Vicksburg and Atlanta campaigns, and
followed Sherman to the sea. He was taken prisoner at
Harper’s Ferry, paroled and sent to Camp Douglas, Chicago;
was in active service during all his enlistment, except the four months
he was a paroled prisoner. His residence is in Carryall township, and
his postoffice address is Antwerp, Paulding County, Ohio.
OVERMYER, Hiram - was a soldier of the
Rebellion, serving three years in the 68th Regiment Ohio Volunteer
Infantry; he participated in seven battles. He had two brothers in the
army; Michael, in the hundred days’ service, and Noah, in the
14th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Hiram was born in Sandusky
county, October 22, 1831, married in Henry county, Ohio, April 30,
1855, to Malinda E. Carey, who was born in York county, Pennsylvania,
February 16, 1834. They are the parents of twelve children: Orlando D.,
born December 13, 1854; Emma L., December 16, 1856, died January 15,
1857; George W., January 24, 1858; Edward L., March 3, 1860; Hiram A.,
February 5, 1862; Ulysses S. Grant, March 25, 1865; Mary A., April 23,
1869; Charles F., August 4, 1872; Ida B., and Eda D., November 17,
1875; the former died September 10, 1876; the latter September 21,
1876. Mr. Overmyer’s parents were Michael and Esther (Hammer)
Overmyer; his father died January 24, 1859. Hiram was School Director
in 1871-1872; a Supervisor in 1880-81. His wife’s parents
were Edward and Susan (Shafer) Carey, both of whom are deceased; the
former March 28, 1842, the latter August 4, 1876. Business farming and
stock raising. Address, Antwerp, Paulding county, Ohio.
