KAUFMAN, Daniel - is the son of Benjamin and
Elizabeth (Everett) Kaufman, and was born in Fairfield county, Ohio,
September 25, 1824. He settled in this county in the spring of 1855. He
married in Paulding county, Ohio, October, 1864 to Louisa Snell, born
at Little Falls, New York, June 3, 1831. When Mr. Kaufman came to this
county he purchased the farm on which he now resides, cleared off the
timer, built a cabin and went to farming. He now has a large farm house
and a fine farm. He has filled the office of Infirmary Director one
term, and has been Township Trustee eleven years. His brother, Gabriel
Kaufman, enlisted in an Ohio Regiment, took sick after the battle of
Pittsburg Landing and died. Mr. Kaufman’s post office address
is Paulding, Paulding county, Ohio.
KECK, Levi - was
born on the Auglaize river, in Brown township, Paulding county, on
January 24, 1857, his parents, Jacob and Sophia (Kirkinburg) Keck,
having settled there in 1849; the former died in 1859. He was married
in Paulding county July 19, 1880, to Lucy C. Carey, born in the same
county September 5, 1857, and daughter of David C. and Sarah L.
(Talbert) during the late war, from the beginning to the close.
Business, postmaster and merchant. Address, Oakwood, Paulding county,
Ohio.
KELLER, David E. - settled
in Latty township on a farm of forty acres, on March 17, 1881. His
birth took place in Shenandoah county, Virginia, May 2, 1853. His
parents both died in Virginia, their names being John Henry and Mahalia
(Lichliter) Keller. In Licking county, Ohio, on November 8, 1877, he
took unto himself a helpmate in the person of Eliza J. Dickenson, who
was born in New York State, June 6, 1854, her parents being Edward W.
and Naomi (Denton) Dickenson, who both reside in Franklin county, Ohio.
The following are the children of Mr. And Mrs. Keller: Emma Catherine,
born September 23, 1878; Mellie Naomi, March 1, 1880; Hattie Victoria,
October 20, 1881. Mr. Keller had one brother and two half-brothers in
the war of 1861; one of the latter, George Keller, died from a wound
received in battle. Mr. Keller belongs to the Methodist Episcopal
Church, while his wife leans toward the Baptists. He is a farmer and
his postoffice address is Gilbert’s Mills, Paulding county,
Ohio.
KEMLER, Peter -
is a native of Hesse Darmstadt, Germany, born
November 27, 1827, married Sophia Russell of Medina county, Ohio; she
was born March 29, 1837, and died December 29, 1872. Her children were:
Francis, born January 16, 1854; Laura Jane, January 8, 1857; Phoebe,
September 8, 1859; Ebenezer, July 4, 1860, died May 3, 1863; Barbara,
December 5, 1861; Mary Ann Nettie, May 5, 1866. Mr. Kemler’s
second wife, Maria, was a twin sister to his first; she died November
27, 1878. When he first came here the county was very thinly settled.
He now fills the office of Township Trustee, elected April 13, 1881.
His father, George Kemler, died in Hancock county in 1853; his mother,
Eve (Weber) Kemler, died June 10, 1850, on the ocean. His wives were
daughters of Ebenezer and Phoebe Russell, both deceased; the formed
died in 1865, the latter in 1852. Peter Kemler served in defense of the
Union, a member of Company I, 100th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry;
was color bearer for two years; was wounded in his hip at Limestone,
East Tennessee, also in his wrist and head at the battle of Franklin.
He also served as a non-commissioned officer, in the rebellion of
Baden, Germany, 1848-’49-’50. He keeps a saloon on
Perry street. Address, Paulding, Paulding county, Ohio.
KILPATRICK, William - settled
in this county in 1849; he was born in Pike county, Ohio, October 19,
1822, and was married in Hancock county, Ohio, August 24, 1851, to
Hannah Haddox, who was born in Hancock county, December 26, 1831. They
had the following children: George W., born November 13, 1852; Margaret
L., December 16, 1854, died July 23, 1865; Oliver E., October 22, 1857;
William L., March 13, 1859; Emmett E., October 22, 1862; Harry W.,
September 27, 1869; Ira G., March 17, 1877. Mr. Kilpatrick has held the
office of Justice of the Peace three terms, and his son, Oliver E.,
holds the same office at the present time. William H. Kilpatrick died
January 17, 1878. His parents were William Kilpatrick and Hester (Mead)
Kilpatrick, died May 1, 1875; they came to this county in 1868. Mrs.
Kilpatrick’s parents were Mordecai Haddox, died January 27,
1878, and Margaret (Landis) Haddox died January 20, 1855. Mr.
Kilpatrick’s brother, A. J., was in the late war in the 21st
Ohio, got his discharge for disability; re-enlisted in the 29th Ohio
and served in that regiment eight months; he was in several
engagements. Oliver E. Kilpatrick is engaged in farming, and his
address is Payne, Paulding county, Ohio.

KING, John - a farmer in Harrison
township, where he settled in 1873, and his wife, Elizabeth Wrightsman,
were born and married in Logan county, Ohio. John’s birth was
on the 14th day of June, 1846, and Elizabeth’s, March 15,
1845, and the last mentioned event was celebrated September 24, 1867,
and two sons and two daughters have followed this union: Ella D., born
December 25, 1868; Harry W., June 22, 1872; Charles O., October 15,
1875; Mina M., May 24, 1880. Jacob King, whose demise occurred March 3,
1870, and Mary (Rolands) King, who died September 25, 1878, are the
parents of John. Mrs. King is the daughter of Daniel and Catherine
(Good) Wrightsman; her father died in 1859. Mr. King filled the office
of Township Trustee during 1878; he also served his country in the late
conflict between the North and South; enlisted for three years in the
124th Ohio, and was in active service until he was wounded and disabled
at Nashville, Tennessee; lost his right leg above the knee, also
received a wound in his head; is now drawing twenty-four dollars
pension per month. He participated in many hard battles. His brother,
Enoch, was in a battery of Heavy Artillery; was killed at the battle of
Lexington, Kentucky, in 1863. His grandfather, John King, served in the
Revolutionary war under General Washington, and also fought the Indians
under General Wayne; was wounded in one of the battles on the Maumee.

KINKLE, Conrad - was
born in Crawford county, Ohio, October 28, 1850, and settled in
Paulding county in 1852. His wife, Julia (Brunner) Kinkle, was born in
Paulding county, February 22, 1856, and married in Emerald township,
same county, October 21, 1875. They have two children: Edwin, born May
15, 1877, and Hattie Belle, December 11, 1879. Mr. Kinkle’s
father, Conrad Kinkle, was a native of Germany, and his mother a native
of Pennsylvania; they came to Defiance county, Ohio, in 1850, and
removed to Paulding county in 1852. Mrs. Kinkle’s father,
Calvin Brunner, was born in Hamilton county, Ohio; her mother, Ann
Spurier, is a native of Kentucky. Mrs. Kinkle’s two brothers
served in the late war; Roland died in Kentucky and William served four
year and three months, and died in 1880 of disease contracted in the
service. She also had two uncles killed in the war, one at
Milliken’s Bend. Mr. Kinkle is a grocer and saloonist, keeps
constantly on hand a full line of groceries, and in connection with
this business he has a sample room, where the choicest wines, liquors,
cigars, etc., can always be found. Address, Reid’s Paulding

KNIGHT, Daniel H. - and Caroline E. Lewellyn were
married in Athens County, Ohio, September 18, 1866, and their family
consists of: Lillie M., born August 27,1867; Norman W., January 6,
1871; James J., February 16, 1873; Martha J, September 7, 1875; Zeruiah
S., August 30, 1879. Mr. Knight is the son of James and Susan (Immel)
Knight, deceased, and Mrs. Knight is a daughter of Alpheus W. and Ellen
N. (Smitley) Lewellyn. Mr. Knight fought in the late war, a member of
Company A., 92nd Ohio, participated in the battles of Chickamauga,
Mission Ridge, Kenesaw Mountain, Atlanta, Savannah, Georgia,
Bentonville, South Carolina; was discharged from the service June 10,
1865. Mr. Knight was born in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, June 25,
1842, and his wife in Athens County, September 12, 1846. He has been a
farmer in this township since 1878. Address, Lewellyn P.O., Paulding

KNOWLES, Francis V. - has
been a farmer in Jackson township since 1878, when he migrated from
Morrow county, where he was born February 17, 1833. His parents are
Chester and Mary M. (Hess) Knowles. His wife, Lydia Irenia Fuller, is a
daughter of Amos and Rebecca (Burres) Fuller; she was both born and
married in Delaware county, the former event October 30, 1832, and the
latter February 28, 1852. They have been favored with nine children,
all living but one. The first, J. Perry, born December 28, 1852;Anna
R., June 2, 1855; Cinderella M., May 27, 1857; Chester, January 4,
1861; Amos Alexander, April 8, 1863, died August 15, 1866; Charles H.,
June 8, 1866; Hayden V., May 18, 1869; Mabel L., November 25, 1872;
George Albert, January 10, 1876. Cyrenius A. Knowles, brother of
Francis V., enlisted in 1863 in the 27th Michigan; served under Grant
in the campaigns of 1864 and 1865; was in the battle of the Wilderness,
and the siege of Petersburg and Richmond, Virginia. Mrs. Knowles had
seven brothers in the army; three were veterans, and served through the
entire war;three served in the 48th Ohio, and one in the 10th Ohio
Cavalry. Address F. V. Knowles at Charloe, Paulding county, Ohio.
KOHN, David Pierce - is
a son of Elihu L. and Elizabeth Kohn, residents of Paulding county,
where they settled in 1853. David was born in Franklin county, Ohio,
December 10, 1852; was eighteen months old when his parents located
here. He was married in this county, January 21, 1874, to Lydia Ann,
born in Randolph county, Indiana, April 3 1854, and daughter of James
and Mary J. (Johnson) Noffsinger, settlers in this county in 1870; are
now residents of this county. The family consists of Bertha j., born
January 23, 1875; Mahlon W., April 13, 1870; Clyde E., August 7, 1880.
Mr. Kohn’s father was in the war; was discharged for
disability and afterwards drafted and served one year. He has a farm of
forty acres, twenty of it cleared. He and his family are all members of
the Christian Church. Address, Gilbert’s Mills, Paulding
county, Ohio.
KRANER, Oscar F. - druggist
and grocer at Paulding, is the son of Henry and Ann (Dildine) Kraner,
born in Franklin county, July 8, 1856, and located here in 1873. He was
married to Mary McClusky, daughter of Rev. J. W. and Elizabeth
McClusky, September 15, 1881. He is serving in the office of
Corporation Clerk, elected April, 1800. His brother, Harmon, enlisted
in the 113th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry at the beginning of the
war and served until the battle of Chickamauga. Oscar F. is a member of
the firm of Baldwin & Kraner, dealers in drugs, medicines and
groceries, on Main street, Paulding Centre, Paulding county, Ohio.
KRETZINGER, Henry B. - is
a native of Wayne county, Ohio, born March 29, 1844; settled in this
county in 1846 with his parents, John and Jane Ann (Burtnett)
Kretzinger; the former died September 1, 1877, the latter September 2,
1876. Mr. Kretzinger was married in this county on the 10th of March
1878, to Charlotte Bidlack, born in this county, October 24, 1857, and
daughter of James and Mary (Michim) Bedlack, settlers in Paulding
county in 1850, and died in 1872. The children are: Wilford V., born
April 8, 1879, Alberta B., February 7, 1881. Mr. Kretzinger is now
serving as County Surveyor; was elected in 1879, and has served two
terms as Trustee and as Clerk of Brown township. He was in military
service during the war of 1861, and served three years; was a member of
the 100th Ohio; was in the battles of Resaca, siege of Knoxville, siege
of Atlanta, and the battles of Middle Tennessee in the Fall of 1864.
